CrossWord daily devo from Pastor Greg ‘Love that goes deep’

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
Have you ever forgiven someone when you perhaps felt a bit cheated or ripped off or maligned or taken advantage of or…it was probably hard to do, right? Maybe too hard to do..It’s always harder to forgive when something like that happens. Here is an even tougher question…would you forgive them if you had some sort of crazy supernatural knowledge or insight of the future and knew that your friend or loved one would hurt, cheat you or rip you off or whatever?..would you even bother to think about helping that friend move, or helping them out with anything, knowing that they would do the wrong thing to you in the future? Probably not.
I am super glad that the love of our God goes way beyond our own capacity to love and forgive. He shows us His love to us, not how we would love, but how He loves.  Even though God knows all, and knew that you and I would be cheating, lying, partying, and sinning in whatever other verb you want to use to fill in the blank, Jesus still died for us. He would pay the price for our sins so we could be forgiven, no matter what we did. There wasn’t a cap on His love, He didn’t qualify it, He died for those sins while we were doing them, even though He knew we would be doing them. He died so we could know His love. His love that gave us that incredible gift of forgiveness and salvation. The crazy thing is that we still go on sinning and He still loves us. Our prayer and hope needs to be that we so understand this deep love that we don’t let His love and grace be the escape clause for us to keep on sinning in the same way over and over again. If someone loves us like that, we need to respond with an appreciation and grattitude by letting that love rule and not letting sin control our lives. That’s a deep love that deserves massive thankfulness.
