CrossWord – daily devo from Pastor Greg ‘Don’t miss the inspiration’

And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen. John 21:25

I enjoy watching the top professional athletes compete at the highest level and do things that only a small percentage of the world can do. Some of those, the creme de la creme, have had magazine articles and books written about their achievements, along with documentaries filmed to remember how amazing they played and how they separated themselves amongst the rest of the pro athletes. When you are young, those books or documentaries made about them, although limited in number, can inspire you to try to do even greater things and strive to be the best of the best. Usually, you wont just look at them once, but reread them, re watch them so you stay focused and inspired.

As a Christian, we have the opportunity to be inspired to trust Jesus and live for Him in a powerful and radical way everyday. We just have to open up His word and be reminded of who He is. I love how John ends his gospel with a simple reminder to us about all of the things Jesus did. He doesn’t list them, but He talks instead about all of the things that are not listed. He didn’t just turn water into wine, feed the 5,000 plus with just a few loaves and fish, raise the dead, heal the lame, heal the leper, pour out grace to the woman in adultery, made the blind man’s eyes to see, heal the woman with the issue of blood for 12 years, show compassion to the sick and hungry, and of course, as well as other things, and certainly not to be forgotten, He also died for our sins. No, there is a whole other list of things that Jesus did that we don’t even know about! And the world itself could not contain all of the books if all of those events were written down. Maybe when we are in heaven we will get to glimpse into those events via books or video. I thought what we had was enough, but imagine what else He might have done. For now, we have the achievements of Jesus as recorded in the gospels and when we read those and really break them down, I don’t think we can walk away without being inspired to live for Him. So, when we are feeling a bit discouraged about our situation in life then maybe its time to reread some of those incredible events that Jesus did so we can be reminded of His power, refocus on who He is and what He can do in the midst of whatever dire circumstance we may be in.  His deeds should inspire us to trust Him with everything and live for Him on a daily basis. He is the same today as yesterday and forever so don’t doubt that He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that you ask or think.
