CrossWord- daily devo from Pastor Greg

“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” Jesus, John 17:17

Here is a good resolution for 2015. Let’s let God’s word so penetrate our lives that we live in such a way that we are sanctified, separate, cleansed, purified or made holy from the way the world lives or how we used to live. It is this process of sanctification that happens in our lives as God changes us through His word. If we are willing, He will be changing us, our attitudes, our bad habits, our wrong thoughts, our lusts. This prayer of Jesus gives us a glimpse into His desire for us as He is praying that The Father would set us apart from the unholy things, purifying us and accomplishing that by the truth of His word.  He knows this world will leave its stain on us, so He let’s us know that God is helping in this process of cleansing. The question is, ‘are we willing?’. There may be some things in our lives that we don’t want to be separated from even though we know they are not what the Lord would want for us. Remember that His plan, His way is always better. Its great to know that God is working in us, but we still have some work to do. It can be hard to be holy in a very unholy world, but its even harder when we don’t allow His word to penetrate our being, and apply it to our lives. Going to church is important, but what about the other 5-6 days of the week?  Where do you get your fuel for the change? If we make it a resolution to allow God’s word to be a regular part of our daily diet, not only reading, but also applying and obeying its truth for our lives, then we will see that healthy and holy separation happening more and more. Those things that you tightly hold onto will no longer seem as important or as controlling over your life as you let His word and His presence change your ways. Getting a glimpse into Jesus’ prayer gives us a glimpse of His goal for us, which gives us the opportunity to respond and resolve to make a spiritual change in 2015. If we let God work and we do some work, we will see that the process of sanctification at work. It will always be an ongoing process, so don’t give up or get discouraged, but keep trusting that The God of universe, who loves you deeply, is working in and through you.

Happy New Year!
